The history of Cos d'Estournel is legendary. It Takes its name from Caux, which means a rocky slope, and from Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel who inherited 12 hectares of vines on the top of the Saint-Estèphe plateau. He subsequently decided to purchase the entire hill after tasting the first wines he produced. The Château's architecture was inspired by his travels to India, which in turn influenced the French writers Stendhal and Jules Verne. Under the ownership of the Prats family, Cos has reaffirmed its standing among the elite of Saint-Estèphe and Bordeaux with supple, powerful and concentrated wines.
