Founded in Reims in 1827 by the Mumm Family first under the name of P.A. MUMM & Giesler, this emblematic house of Champagne gets its final name, G.H. Mumm, during the inheritance proceedings in 1852 from Georges Hermann Mumm, son of one of the two founders.
In 1875, the company launched its Cuvée G.H.Mumm Brut Cordon Rouge which became famous all over the world and is today a key reference as far as Champagne is concerned.
Today, the G.H. Mumm company spreads over 218 acres of vines of which 160 acres are Grand Cru classified thanks to the work of René Lalou who took over the presidency of the company in 1939. He completely rebuilt the terroir that had been devastated by the Phylloxera crisis and the war.
Since 2005, G.H. Mumm is the first major Champagne brand in France, which is the biggest market in the world.
Didier Mariotti became Cellar Master in 2006 and is always driving quality toward higher standards. It is proven by the latest comments and marks on all the cuvées of the company. In 2012, G.H.Mumm launched its 56th vintage with the Mumm 2006. Only the best years are vintage cuvées, explaining why they are rare. At G.H.Mumm’s, it is all about Georges Hermann Mumm’s motto: « Only the best!».
