Southern aromas
Port has been made for Centuries along the steep banks of the Douro River in Northern Portugal, where terraces have been hewn, wrested or blasted from the granite rock. Port falls into two categories, ruby and tawny. Ruby styles are bottled when young, fiery and fruity and do any maturing necessary in the bottle with Vintage Port made in exceptional years spending 2-3 years in barrel before being bottled. By contrast Tawny Port does most of its maturing in barrel where it stays for decades. If Sherry is your preferred tipple, choose between tangy dry Fino, nutty dry Amontillado or rich, dry Oloroso from North West Spain. Delicious served with chocolate, fine cheeses or after dinner treats.
