Supple and concentrated

Not only is the name Pichon-Longueville Comtesse evocative, but its proprietor is very active. The suffix "de Lalande" comes from an accident of fortune which bestowed upon the eponymous countess her two sisters' shares in the vineyard when they died without heirs. The Miailhe family acquired the property in 1926 and May Eliane de Lenquesaing (née Miailhe) runs it with passion. The deeply-coloured wine is supple and shapely, frankly appealing, thanks to its strong proportion of Merlot grapes. The second wine, La Réserve de la Comtesse, is a delicious surprise.
