Description of this Châteauneuf du Pape
You will all have heard of Beaucastel, a fantastic wine made by the Perrin family with extraordinarily innovative techniques.
The vines are around 50 years old and the yields are never over 30 hectolitres per hectare.
Their vineyard is in good shape thanks to organic cultivation methods. The wine is intense and structured and this is mainly due to the large proportion of Mourvèdre grapes in the blend(30%).
The Grenache grapes(30%)create warmth and roundness. Blended together with the Syrah, Muscardin, and Vaccarése grapes, spicy and chocolaty aromas come through and will provide long ageing potential. Another 5% of Cinsault give it that special bouquet.
We tasted the 2006 Beaucastel at the Domaine and found it superbe.
You can distinctly tell the influence the scorching temperatures have had on this vintage by the strong flavours of balckberries and wild grass, black olives, plums and violettes.
On the palate, the fullness of this wine is striking. The tanins are very prensent but well incorporated into the blend. This wine is meant to age.
You couldn't find a better Beaucastel if you tried!
