The beautiful, rosy-hued grapes of the Gewürztraminer vine make intensely aromatic white wines reminiscent of lychees, rose petals and/or cachou sweets. Gewürztraminer can range from dry to sweet, light to very full, with moderate acidity. The best come from Alsace, where "vendange tardive" on the label indicates extra ripeness and richness, often sweetness. New Zealand has some good Gewürztraminer, and there’s more in Austria, Germany, Italy, Eastern Europe, Australia and California.

The biodynamist, Olivier Humbrecht, first French man to gain the prestigious title of "Master of Wine", is convinced that in order to have a beautiful grape, you must not feed the grape but the soils.
It creates more vigorous fermentations, better preserved yeasts on the grapes, more stable wines.
