My selection of Médoc wines:

This great peninsula of flat land stretches north from Bordeaux to the Pointe de Grave, bounded by two large bodies of water: the Atlantic ocean to the west, and the Gironde estuary to the east. Covering 16400 hectares, the Médoc is a subtle synthesis of water and earth, and its wines combine the force of the wind with the softness of its sand. Polished like stones in cathedral-like cellars, these red wines bear the Bordeaux standard throughout the world. In 1855, a celebrated Classification of the region's Châteaux was made, which is still a reference for these wines today. The Médoc is also a sub-regional appellation.
